Hi there, it’s been a while and hope you’re moving on with the vision you set ahead of you. Here’s an announcement you didn’t pay for. It’s going to be a long read but it’s worth reading.
Some weeks back, I was having a discussion with a friend about knowing one’s weakness and praying about it constantly. It was really a conversation to witness. I’ll share some highlight of what we discussed (you’re welcomed by the way).
So let’s dive right into it.
Many people find themselves constantly praying to avoid falling spiritually and other aspect. But the conversation was based on the spiritual because on it lies every other aspect of life. The Question that raised the conversation which explored the difference between caution and fear in our prayers was this;
“
Let ye, who think he stands, take heed lest he fall. Meaning be
watchful and pray.
But when it now becomes frequent that it becomes your constant prayer or daily
affirmation
God, don't let me fall.
Ma je kin sonu. (Don’t let me get lost)
What do you do?
“
It was a very short but well loaded conversation. Here are the things I learnt.
1. Recognizing Weakness is Wisdom
The conversation emphasizes that recognizing our weaknesses is actually a sign of wisdom. This awareness is what prompts us to pray. The goal is not to be paralyzed by fear of falling, but to approach our spiritual journey with caution, acknowledging our tendency to stumble and seeking God's strength to keep us upright.
2. The Importance of Watchfulness and Humility
The conversation starts with the importance of watchfulness and humility in our spiritual walk. We acknowledged the scripture "let he who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall," emphasizing the need to be aware of our vulnerability. Humility is key to recognizing this vulnerability and turning to God for guidance. The Apostle Paul's prayers for the churches to stand firm serve as an example of this kind of prayer rooted in humility.
3. Fear vs. Caution: Two Different Approaches
While acknowledging that humility is key to recognizing our need for God's guidance, it's important to distinguish between caution and fear. Fear can be a paralyzing force. The conversation uses the analogy of handling fire to illustrate the difference. Approaching fire with caution acknowledges its potential to burn, but fear can prevent us from even using it safely. In his word,
“
There is a difference between handling fire knowing it could burn you and handling fire fearing it would burn you
One is caution...the other is fear
“
Fear shouldn't be the driving force behind our prayers. While constantly praying "God, don't let me fall" might seem like a good idea, it can be rooted in fear rather than a healthy awareness of our limitations.
4. Moving from Fear to Dependence
The conversation suggests a shift from fear to a place of mindful dependence on God. Instead of fearing our weaknesses, we can approach them with caution and a reliance on God's grace. Scripture is referenced to support this concept, with Corinthians reminding us that even the strong can fall, and Psalms offering a prayer for God's guidance.
Ps.139.24 “And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.” (NKJV)
Recognizing our weaknesses is a sign of wisdom, and prayer is the tool to bridge the gap between our limitations and God's strength. Our prayers should not be driven by fear of falling, but by a desire to grow closer to God and avoid temptation.
The acknowledgment of dependence on God becomes a driving force behind the daily prayers. Instead of trembling in fear, it becomes a conscious effort to navigate through life with an awareness of the inherent fragility of human nature.
Conclusion
After the short discuss, this friend of mine ended it with a story bringing Other Christians to the picture. Here’s how he narrated the story;
“There are two men in Pilgrim progress called fearing and ready to halt. They both had something in common. They were not as strong as the other Christians and are always afraid they would fall or even whether they would be accepted at the gate.”
Rom.14.1
“As for the man who is a weak believer, welcome him [into your fellowship], but
not to criticize his opinions or pass judgment on his scruples or perplex him
with discussions.” (AMP)
“As such, they were slower in the journey than the rest and went along the way with much sadness and fear. They could have had it better but then. they still arrived. Because their master also helps them. And this should be our response to such people too.”
It was really eye opening as it underscores the importance of recognizing and addressing weaknesses with a balanced perspective. The plea, "God, don't let me fall," becomes a mantra of self-awareness, an acknowledgment of dependency on a higher power, and a journey toward spiritual growth without succumbing to the shackles of fear.
Those who struggle with feelings of inadequacy can find strength in prayer. It reminds us that prayer shouldn't be fueled by fear, but by a humble recognition of our dependence on God's strength and guidance. By approaching our weaknesses with caution and faith, we can move from a place of fear to a place of empowered dependence on the divine.
I hope it worth your time!
