Things They Told Me

Hello there, it has been a while since you heard from me on this space and I hope you are doing well. To the AAs, I hope you are taking good care of yourselves more than the way others do. Let’s dive in! But before then, apologies for not releasing “Things We Do For Love” this year. It hurt me also but don’t worry anticipate!

Santa Cruz has come and gone and that made me remember that another calendar year is coming to an end apart from my birthday year. And I’m like wow! How time flies. Wasn’t it a year ago I wrote “12 Days of Christmas (Naija Edition)” All thanks to God.

Going through the year through my mind, I discovered that at some point in time there are situations or decisions we are faced with and people relieve us with some words and we were like “mehn if I knew this, I wouldn’t have stressed or disturbed myself this much”.

Which is one of the reasons why we need to be careful of what we say. Whether you are whining or not. Be careful of the word which you speak. Life isn’t about how talented or skillful in cursing anyone that comes your way. Also bless people through your words too.

            It’s gonna be a long read though but please, patiently read till the end. Experiences make us and teach us (I might not be in the best place to say that to you, but I know you have a glimpse of the full picture of what experience can do). So without any further ado, here are the things they told me;

#1

“If you don’t start making the change now, your mates who all they is partying and clubbing will be the one who will be hailing you for money as you ride your car”

– Aspire

The key point, I picked from this word been said is that. You have something that others depend on. So do that which has been given to you and use it well. It’s not about doing it in a hurry, it might even be slow and steady but, the major aim is to influence and not disgrace cos you know how to savage.

#2

“Don’t worry you will be fine”

– Many Individual

That’s just the truth! Don’t worry about anything. No matter the weight of the burden. It would still come down and at the end of your days or months of worries with a face that makes you look like you don’t know how to smile. So why not treat yourself to be fine before the worry makes you look weary.

#3

“If you say it, shey you know nothing will happen”

- F. EM

Most time we just hoard what we ought to say probably because we don’t know how to say it or because we are not used to saying it. But above all, learn to say things you genuinely want to say. And know how to say it.

#4

“The joy of leadership is in the stress”

– Egbon

In one word, if you are not stressed as a leader you won’t know what it means to be a true leader and what will your testimony be like if you don’t have a moment of stress (either from people, activities, or equipment) to look at?

#5

“You don’t need to be ashamed of your look. Let the one who love you, love you the way you are”

-          Marshall

Honestly, just be you! So your friends, family, lover, and enemies can tell you exactly what to improve on.

#6

“Don’t worry God is in control & Learn to trust God”

- D.vee Big Sis

There’s no need for you to overthink about this. Keep calm and act it out!

#7

“Be free they are all your mate”

– Coachee

Sometimes we assume and that limits us. Thus making fear rule over us because we are afraid that if we talk and they shun you. But, one thing I’ve come to realize is that always give your input wherever you are either by speaking or by action.

#8

So, if I get into power now (politics) many people would be expecting me to give them more than I have been given them (money/material things)

-          OGA

True or true? This is what some would think about when such opportunity comes. It would be better if we look beyond this and see it as an avenue to impact through the position you are now. And not a regular routine that you must have a bite from the national cake as they call it. Remember that, one day you will stand before Him and give an account of your life. And I hope you know that “You are not the owner of your life!

#9

"E le yii, kan tiju oga ni. Oun naa o gbadun de be" (He's just trying to act normal, this is not the way he is)

-          BOG

Sometimes you just have to mellow, keep calm and act as if all is well for peace to rain. And in keeping the peace that doesn't mean you should hurt yourself with it. Learn when to do some certain things and when not to do some certain things.

#10

“Mo gbo yin sir sugbon mi o le se nkan te wi” (I heard your advice but I can’t yield to it)

-          Girl

Not all advise are good and that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t listen to advise. Listen, Sieve, and Pick what is right to be used.

#11

“The prove of whatever you are doing now is after you finish doing what you are doing”

-          Egbon

That’s just the truth. To know if we truly did what we said we did, will be made known to us after we finished the work. So while working, pause and check sometimes to know if you’re truly working or not.

Thanks for reading till the end and I hope I didn’t waste your time. Thanks for all you’ve done so far. God blesses you and everything that is yours. I love you all, let’s do much more next year.
